I see we think rather alike on the general questions...

4. Who do you think is particularly bad at writing characters?
Jordan, especially his women.
but at the risk of turning this into a WoT thread (God forbid ), I can't really agree with you here. Not that Jordan's characterization is all that spectacular, but I never did see why people claim his women are so badly written. When one of the main premises of a series is that the world is semi-medieval but dominated by women to some extent, it makes little sense to complain that his average female character is rather bossier and more prone to bossing around men than the average woman in the real world. One could disagree with that premise, disagree that women would be like that in a society which they dominated as they do Jordan's - but that doesn't mean the characters are badly written. A few of his female characters are caricatures, agreed, and there are far too many of them to make every character well-drawn and interesting. But I don't see why characters like Elayne, Nynaeve, Min and Morgaine would be considered badly written or developed - or why they'd be any worse than the male protagonists. Egwene is more debatable, as she kind of tends towards the Mary Sue at times if you ask me.

Yeah, Nynaeve throws an awful lot of hissy fits, even when the Forsaken are after them.

I don't know why this post has so many views yet so few replies... Let's remedy that.
