Question about the Commonwealth Saga by Hamilton...

I have Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained and finished them both. It has been a long time since I enjoyed a hard sci-fi novel and I really enjoyed the way the galaxy was setup. But somehow, I feel as if I was let down at the end of JU. It seemed as if in the end, nothing really changed. Like the whole galaxy went through this harrowing ordeal and only 2 or 3 people came out better or worse for it. Others went right back to being exactly like they were before hand.
I was wondering if the Void Trilogy picks up soon after JU or does it take place further in the future? Also, do some of the characters make returns? Specifically Paula and Ozzie (and Tochee for that matter)? Is it worth reading series or will I come away with the same feeling of near-closure-but-not-really.

Castle: This is so weird. I dressed up as him for Halloween.
Beckett: Me too.
