wasnt this book supposed to come out years ago? yes, im familiar with the fact that it had to be redone due to structural issues, but since that info came out it seems like almost two years passed. im sorry but thats ridiculous...you are a professional author. theres no way youre pulling 4-6 hour days at a 2k word/day rate and not managing a full book per year, year and a half tops.

Seems to me that while Martin is faithful to his characters and his process, hes not particularly hard working, and thereby not faithful to his fans. theres a difference between being meticulous and being hardworking. i think martin is the former, but definitely not the latter. theres just no excuse. makes me lose interest in the series.

I think people must be in a pretty pathetic place in their lives to get riled up over how long it takes to read about a fictional world. I mean, really. Its not real. Its fake. If thats what upsets someone, they should seek help. Fast. Your life must suck. Chill out, relax, read it when it arrives.

It's not the wait that bothers people. Plenty of people wait much longer for much more desirable things. It's the fact that we've been dicked around for, depending on who you ask, as much as 11 years. Promised the book by the end of the year, only to find out that it's going to be another year after that.

It's disrespectful to fans, who are the basis of an author's livelihood.

All that said, a large number of people will go out and read adwd ANYWAY, bc Martin is just that good of a storyteller(although I'd bet good money that significantly fewer people will buy it in comparison to a few years ago). But that does not change the fact that he is a lazy ass who is treating his fans like crap, which is all this post is about, since a lot of people seem to be sympathetic with martin on account of his organizational problems.

Ok. If the only way he has treated them like crap was promising and being wrong about AFFC, then well damn, way to call a guy a dick about one mistake. Further, after that, he has never made a promise as to when he would finish a book. Probably because he felt like a dick for being wrong. Touche, Martin. Good man for not falling into the same trap. Otherwise, I can think of a way he's treated fans like crap. I don't feel personally offended by anything he's done. I don't believe he's sitting at home, in his office, white beard filled with ginger snap crumbs thinking "Hahaha, those stupid imbeciles. I'll make them wait until they can't wait no more! I shall be the best villain in the universe! Batman won't even be able to stop me". Sorry, but that just ain't whats up.

Contrast Martin with a guy like Sanderson. Granted Sanderson is a younger, hungrier writer looking to establish himself in the ssf world, but he worked his ass off to give both his fans and wot fans a book in one year. He did this partly so his own work wouldnt be forgotten and partly because he's just a decent guy who does his best to give back to the people who essentially write his paycheck.

Sanderson didn't write himself into a corner. He's taking over someone elses work that has an extensive outline and background material. Martin, is making up his outline, background material and stuff. Then he's writing the book. Little different, dontcha think?
