I know I said three downthread, but I have since read on other boards that it's planned as 6 books, two sets of trilogies. The first trilogy is Kvothe's flashback story, and the second trilogy is presumably Kvothe's life going forward--hopefully relearning how to kick ass and destroy the Chandrian.
Also, he's already been expelled from the University and forced to leave. Based on how his stories have not always been as they seemed, that could have been what he meant.

I haven't found any support for the theory that this story will be more than three books. Has Rothfuss stated that? Every interview I see, he says "three books." And he's also stated that he is done with Kvothe after this story. I think it will finish in 3, and the 3rd will move fast. After all, we know whoever Kvothe kills, he kills them in Imre. The second book ends at the University.
/Review: Just finished Wise Man's Fear (some spoilers, toward the third paragraph (it's long ))
