First question -- Anybody know how many books this is planned for? This one didn't move the plot forward very far.
I believe it is three. I think I've read somewhere that Rothfuss has said that, but I'm too lazy to google that right now. However, Kvothe said it would take three days to tell his story, and since each book so far has comprised one whole day it makes sense that the third one would follow the same pattern.
Random thoughts -- I'm really getting bored with the whole Denna situation. I know there is more going on with her "Patron" than meets the eye, but by the end of the book, it really felt like that situation had been beat to death several times.
To each his own. I really enjoyed the Denna storyline in this book and the last; it's a really good piece of writing in my opinion. I especially liked how they somewhat mirror each other in their relationships with other people. Fela's explanation of Kvothe's dealings with other women at the end of the book is pretty much the same way Kvothe has previously described Denna's suitors.
This book felt very predictable to me. Having waited so long, it feels very anticlimatic to have finished it already.
I think it's supposed to be predictable. I mean, we sorta already know the end and major plot points. The fun is finding out how we get there.
