I won't be as mad as Cannoli, or pedantic as Tom but it is an Irish novel

I distinctly remember reading this book in sunny Tenerife, not exactly the most appropriate location to read a vampire novel, and perhaps due to that I cannot remember having been scared at any point. I'm intrigued by the comments about Van Helsing's English, though - I read it in Dutch translation at the time, so obviously that wouldn't have showed.

Re reading it in Dutch: I wonder how well that would have worked. It is so British a novel (yes, Stoker might have been Irish, but the Irish were British at that time) that translations must lose a lot.
He's from Clontarf, and was a Home Ruler. This means he is Irish. i will agree that he was a part of the Anglo-Irish community but he was most definitely Irish
