Whether you're a hardcore fan from his early days or not, fact is, most people know him from ASOIAF. Nothing he did before achieved close to this level of success.
Martin was a main scriptwriter on BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, a TV show with 20 million viewers and took the brunt of the fans' fury over killing off the main character in the series. 20 million is more than ten times the number of people who have ever read A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, worldwide.
"No-one heard about this dude before ASoIaF." Yeah, right. That's why he has quite substantial entries in the gargantuam ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SCIENCE FICTION (pub. 1993), THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF FANTASY (pub. early 1996) and other reference tomes. That's why his short story SANDKINGS was chosen as the pilot episode of the new OUTER LIMITS in 1995.
You want to talk for yourself, fine. Don't make sweeping statements that are moronically incorrect and then desperately try to cover for them by going to Wikipedia.

Martin finds further way to put off writing the book.

People still care about Martin and anticipate a book that will clearly never be published?

Yeah, I have to say I'm with Adam on this one, it's rather easy to complain from the sidelines.

Has Vegas started taking odds on whether the book will be finished within 2011 yet? *NM*
