Gearbox picked up the rights last year and the mostly-finished code, have provided playable versions of the game to various expos and will apparently have it out in just a few months. Which coming from 3D Realms I'd have dismissed, but Gearbox do good work and get their projects out on time, even on punishing deadlines.

Also, the comparison is a bit of a stretch. 14 years between DUKE NUKEM games is more than twice that since AFFC came out. HALF-LIFE 2 EPISODE 3 might be a more apt comparison (given Valve's decision to abandon work on it to work on other projects, something GRRM has often been accused of).
