I'd have a slow moving plot to fast moving nonsense any day.

A lot, that's how many.
Dan Brown at least knows how to advance a plot. Robert Jordan couldn't. George Martin seems to be having serious problems with the same point.
Dan Brown at least knows how to advance a plot. Robert Jordan couldn't. George Martin seems to be having serious problems with the same point.
However, both their plots have both realism and internal consistency, a strong development of themes and are filled with believable characters, all written in decent prose that doesn't make you want to kick things.
Slow plot movement is nothing when these elements are present.
Brown, on the other hand, has two dimensional paper cutouts who race through a story that is completely devoid of realism (which is a staggering indictment, since his stories are set in our world, while Martin's and Jordan's are not). There are absolutely no themes, except perhaps that heroes are handsome and villains are not!

Why is it that so many people hate Dan Brown?

His prose is bad. Very bad.

It's not any worse than Robert Jordan's prose. I'd say it's better, in fact.
