My sons liked the Goose Bump books. Iliked the Dragon Riders of Pern when I was not much older than that but there is a fair amount of sexuality, her Harper Hall books might be a good choice though.
A lot of boys that age like adventure books. Try The Call of the Wild or Treasure Island.
