Not necessarily a bad thing, but of the books on the list I've only heard of Yu, Gilman and Jemisin, which in fairness have all been received very-well. The rest weren't even blips on my radar, which is strange. Maybe they're all vastly superior to THE DERVISH HOUSE, THE QUANTUM THIEF, TERMINAL WORLD and THE SILENT LAND, but I very much doubt it.
Rajaniemi's book isn't out in the US until 2011 (which VanderMeer notes on the Omnivoracious page where he posted the top 10), I believe The Dervish House will be featured shortly as part of a "second 10", and I see The Silent Land is also a 2011 US release. I've heard the Reynolds isn't one of his better works, though.
But for those on the list, Okorafor certainly has received some coverage (unless you completely forgot the discussion thread on Westeros?), Krilanovich was just nominated as one of the National Book Award's "5 Under 35" novelists, Ajvaz is a translated fiction that is all sorts of awesome (I know it'll be on my own year-end list, position to be determined), and the Lord and Conn novels are quite good...and certainly not marketed as "genre" works, despite the subject material. Perhaps I'll review those in the near future, especially since both are debut works. Come and think of it, half of the novels on this list are debut novels (if not debut releases), which is a promising thing to me, considering that I've enjoyed each of the eight that I've at least read in part.
