Yeah, same here. As I said in the review, fantasy books tend to be rather difficult vocabulary-wise, so you might have some difficulty with this. Personally I'm a native speaker of Dutch, and that allows me to read German far easier than I otherwise could - I've put far less effort into learning German than I've put into for instance Spanish, but I can read it better because something like 50-60% of the words has obvious Dutch cognates. Although then again, occasionally I'll assume something means the same as a similar Dutch word, and only find out my mistake a good while later.

I can explain if you like. The thing is, "Mahre" in German seems to be some creature similar to an "Alb", or possibly even the same creature. Has nothing to do with horses, anyway. Now "Mähre", on the other hand, is a somewhat obscure word that does refer to horses. But he does write "Nachtmahre", without the umlaut, which seems weird. It looks more like the English word that way, I suppose, but one might argue "Mähre" actually sounds more like English "mare" than "Mahre" does. Oh well.

And I used to think it was Alptraum as in the Alps, as little sense as that made, but then I learned it was Albtraum and came from the Albs. After this book, safe to say I won't forget it again.

That makes it harder to maintain your study, yeah...
