Haggard's post about reading in schools got me thinking about when I started reading.
I found my love from two books at about the same time.
My mom used to drag me to bookstores when I was young. I hated going. Couldn't stand books and she would spend HOURS browsing around. One time in May, when I was 12 or 13, we were there and I found Star Wars: Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn. I loved the movies and figured "why not try a book", just to see what's going on. I got home and flew through the book in two days.
The next was just a couple of months later. I was visiting my older brother during summer vacation and was bored a lot. He is a Marine and was at work much of the day. After three days, he suggested I read one of his books. It was Melanie Rawn's Dragon Prince. It was completely unlike anything I had read or heard about before. I tore the book up, burned the midnight oil, got lost in a land beyond imagination....and got hooked.
So when did all of you find your love of books?

So when did all of you find your love of books?
People are dying in Africa......
And what are we doing?
Chatting about books...
This holiday season find a charity you trust and donate...
Or let them die...

I disagree - while many SW books are lackluster, Zahn's are some of the worst. *NM*
