Hello friends, looking for a little help here trying to remember a pair of strange books I once read in my youth. I remember them being really bizarre, so I'd like to look them up again and see if they really were that whacked out. I can't remember the titles or anything though, so that's where I need your help. Both are young adult novels, not recent ones, probably from like the 70s or 80s.

The first was about these two kids (a boy and a girl, I think) who discovered these living dolls in an attic, and they would go up to the attic and hang out with the dolls, who were like a married couple. They used to go walk in "the rose garden" or something, which was like an area with wallpaper with roses on it. I think the book ended with one of the dolls being shattered, but I don't remember. I do remember there being angst though. That's how you can tell it was a good YA novel.

The second was a book that was much shorter, and it was about this girl who lived in the walls for some reason. She had like secret tunnels and stuff that she used to get around her house. I think the rest of her family knew she was there, but she wanted to stay there for some reason. And then she went through puberty and got really angsty and grew up and didn't really fit in the walls anymore, and she got a crush on this guy, and decided to come out of the walls during a costume party or something like that. I know there was a masquerade party, but I can't remember how it ended. Happily, I imagine.

So did I hallucinate these gems, or has somebody else heard of them? Thanks!
