Melanie Rawn leaves a second trilogy incomplete, starts a new one

Tor has cancelled the Spellbinder trilogy's final volume due to poor sales. Rawn was 1/4 of the way through writing the final book but has now abandoned it and started work on a new trilogy, Glass Thorns, with Book 1 planned for 2012.
Some of Rawn's fans (i.e. all of them) have noticed that this new project is very definitely not The Capital's Tower (the 10-years-late-and-counting conclusion to her Exiles trilogy), which Rawn had indicated (although apparently not outright guaranteed) would be her next project post-Spellbinder and The Diviner, a semi-standalone follow-up to The Golden Key. So when Glass Thorns starts, Rawn will have two incomplete trilogies behind her just as she is starting on a third.
Regardless of the reasons for this decision, this cannot be a wise move. Rawn was never a massive-selling author in the first place, and at-best midlisters are much more vulnerable to public opinion and reputation issues than bestsellers (who are more or less bullet-proof). Rawn is, rightly or wrongly, now known the author who can't finish trilogies before moving onto the next project, which cannot bode well for sales of her new series.

She used to be one of my favorite authors. But I can't keep buying into her stuff.

I would be enraged. I'll remember never to buy a book by her. *NM*

Re: I've only read the Sunrunner books. It's a shame.

If I were her, I would serialize that final novel and ask for donations, to keep the fans happy *NM*
