My parents and my grandparents would read to me when I was very young, and then I just sort of picked up how to read from there and with a little of my older sister's help. I do remember one of the first books I ever read all by myself was Green Eggs and Ham. My sister was forcing me to do it and I didn't want to because it was "too long." Look at all the words on the page!
But that actually gave me trouble in school because I learned how to read from memorizing words rather than sounding them out... First grade I could read like a champ but struggled in phonics and eventually spelling. Thank God for spellcheckers, that's all I have to say.

I disagree - while many SW books are lackluster, Zahn's are some of the worst. *NM*

I've only read one of his and it was well into adulthood. He played no part. *NM*
