Kaladin was very similiar to Kelsier from Mistborn, I felt, both in background and behavior. Kept expecting him to die in the later chapters. I'm actually surprised, given Sanderson's mass killing of major characters in Mistborn, that none of the main characters died, though of course he's got nine more books to do that in
As I mentioned in my reply below, Kaladin reminded me more of Raoden, though perhaps that's just because of his situation.
Yes, I noticed the similarity with Elantris too, its probably a particular mode of character Sanderson likes, it works pretty well too, thinking on it a lot writers do similiar. I haven't got around to Warbreaker yet, so I don't know if that has a similiar character too.
