Though she does seem to be the weakest of the four champions in the tasks, which is a shame. Oh well, someone has to be. Unfortunate that it has to be the only girl, considering the sexism of the magical world, but I don't imagine that was on purpose. At least Beauxbatons has a headmistress (female headmaster?), and a female champion.


I quite like that she is the least able here. I get very quickly annoyed when female characters are feminist poster-material. The fact that she is so arrogant and seems so perfect in the beginning needed a break. Krum is already less than perfect in the Hermione/Ron storyline. And Cedric is going to be dead, so he cannot lose.

It has always bothered me that Fleur is the only one to fail here and that she is the only girl. Not a lot, just "Too bad it had to be the only girl", but I like your explanation and it is right, she needs to be taken down a peg or two and none of the boys seem to have an ego problem. I do still find it unfortunate, because she continues to be dismissed throughout the series, I think unfairly. She had to have been chosen as champion for some reason.
