It's extremely unrealistic to expect anyone other than people who get ARC's to read books released

By having these awards so closely to the nominations period you are essentially excluding laypeople.
If it's my favorite author, yeah, I'll read their book in the year it comes out. But even then, probably not in the very same month. In other words, Gathering Storm is going to sweep it.
Not to mention - we're talking hardcover release. People who wait for paperbacks will always be behind and just miss your dates cutoff.
I'm a pretty active reader & buyer of books. Still I only read 13 books that even fit the categories, and of those only 5 I might call "best of."
