I don't think that you'll have to read The Last Wish before you jump into Blood of Elves. The Last Wish is a compilation of short stories starring The Witcher. I'm about 1/4 through right now and it really hasn't give too much information about the characters or world, so I think you're all right just jumping in. I plan on reviewing The Last Wish on my blog soon.
