But it was SO big, SO ambitious, that his publishers wanted something a bit simpler, first.
Hence Elantris, then the Mistborn and Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians books, then Warbreaker and Wheel of Time.
Now that he's proven he can do big stuff and (more importantly) SELL it, they were probably a lot more enthusiastic about signing up for a 10 book saga
