I've already given up on Butcher. I realized that not only were the stories a bit cliche, but also there are other elements that I don't think I'm going to enjoy. I think it's just never going to be realistic enough for me to like.
Sanderson has consistently created interesting systems of magic and fun characters who aren't always predictable, and that makes his books interesting to read.
I do have some issues with a perceived hint of Mormon theology in his books (which, let me say for the record, belong in fantasy). However, I'm willing to just overlook that. Although Mormonism is less defensible than other religions (except Scientology), they all essentially get down to accepting at face value the statement made by some person at some time "I talked to God/an angel/an enlightened being and I have answers". He'll never "convert" me so I can just look past that.

Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
