I apologize, as I'm not really sure where comics discussion is supposed to go (here or on the Entertainment board), but whatever
Warning, character specific rant and a few random Marvel comics spoilers ahead:
So I didn't really follow Comic Con news this year, given how there has been so little in comics and their related media that have interested me lately (sadly). But today I found out a little nugget of information was released at Comic Con that immediately caught my interest. My favorite Spiderman villain, Carnage, is finally coming back.
As a woman.
*takes several deep breaths until the urge to type endless obscenities subsides*
For those who don't know (and probably don't give a sh*t ) Sentry (ugh) supposedly killed Carnage a while ago by ripping him in half. But they left open the possibility that Cletus Kasady, Carnage's alter-ego, may not have been wearing the symbiote at the time. So, you know, they could bring him back in the future if they wanted to.
But no, they've now stated that he is, in fact, dead, and the symbiote is going to be bonding to a new female host.
Oh, hooray, a female Carnage. How much you want to bet she'll run around with her symbiote clinging skin-tight to her oh so shapely form while she thrusts her ass and boobs at the reader and coyly fights the heroes while exchanging sexually-charged dialogue with them? Female villains tend to be so one-note, but even if she ended up being the most interesting character in the history of comics, it still doesn't change the fact that she ISN'T Carnage. Someone else wearing the symbiote isn't the same character, and I want Carnage! (and yes, I hate "Scorpion Venom" for the same reason, but at least Eddie Brock is still alive). If they absolutely HAD to have a female symbiote running around, why couldn't they have used Scream, or made up an original character? Or at least kept Kasady alive so they could use him again in the future if they wanted to?
Bah! I already have to put up with them potentially pulling this crap with Red Skull (no Marvel, I DON'T want to see the Skull's boring daughter take over daddy's role and wear skin tight black leather while simultaneously flirting with and trying to kill Captain America), and now they pull it with Carnage! Let's hope these two go the way of the female "Dr. Octopus" in the 90's. Fast.
I didn't think ANYTHING could make me angrier than "One More Day," but Marvel once again proved me wrong.
Even finding out Marvel Legends are coming back can't cheer me up
Now for some disclaimers:
Yes, I'm aware my rant basically boils down to "the guys already have enough eye-candy in comics. Does Marvel need to take away MY eye candy and give it to them too??" Deal with it And I'm also aware that pretty much everyone has had their favorite character screwed over by Marvel at one time or another. I'll be sympathetic to your rants in the future
And finally, I know that no one on earth cares about this except me, and I'll be the first to agree with the fact that Carnage was over- and badly used back in the 90s, and deserves some of the hatred he gets, and I think it was a wise decision to retire the character for a while because of that. But he was responsible for my interest in comics and my eventual love of all things Spiderman. And because of that, he's special to me, and so it hurts to see him killed off for yet another piece of eyecandy
Sorry for subjecting you all to this pointless rant, but I needed someplace to let this out, and I'd likely be tarred and feathered if I bitched on an actual comics forum. But here, everyone is nice and understanding and certainly doesn't mind, right?
Right?
Bueller?

Hm. I wish visual media had not-stupid female characters.

Well, I'm not familiar with a British style of comics, if any such thing exists.

Alan Moore made his breakthrough in America, and Watchmen at least is very American...
