But since I don't make the final list, these were the ones I suggested:
Saladin Ahmed, "Hooves and the Hovel of Abdel Jameela"
Kelly Barnhill, "Open the Door and the Light Pours Through"
Leah Bobet, "Six"
Catherynne M. Valente, "The Secret History of Mirrors"
And I easily could have chosen another 2-3, if I recall.
I didn't read all the stories, and I think most of these I either didn't read or don't remember.
The ones that I enjoyed the most were:
Marie Brennan, "Once a Goddess"
I vaguely remember it (I no longer have my copy, since I mailed it some time ago to the guest editor, Minister Faust), but it was merely decent and not great.
Ian McHugh, "Angel Dust"
See above.
Mary Robinette Kowal, "At the Edge of Dying"
I almost chose this one, but I liked the others just a bit more.
Gemma Files and Stephen J. Barringer, "each thing i show you is a piece of my death"
I don't think I liked that one very much, but it's been several months since I last read them, so it's hard to say why.
Granted I haven't yet read the Saladin Ahmed story. By the way - a piece of news - he just sold a trilogy to DAW.
I saw that on my Twitter feed the other day. Certainly will pick it up when they are released.
Intersting how out of 15 stories, two people can pick four stories each with no overlap. I'm curious which you'd like best from volume 3. I liked almost everything, but if I had to pick it'd go in this order:
Narayan, Truslow, Schneyer, Bruce, Cooney, Kornher-Stace
Although I'm yet to read the stories by John Grant and Tanith Lee, and John Grant's was a surprise favorite of volume 1.
I'll probably be reading 3 in late August or September. I need a break from short fiction for a while. I read hundreds of stories for BAF 4. Something like 80 journals/magazines in three months. Not fun at the end.

Yeah, dark is putting it mildly... it got bad enough that I'd hesitate recommending it.
