Not in the quote itself, but in the character's development

"Allow me to begin again. Greetings, Akar Kessell. I am Drizzt Do'Urden, ranger of Gwaeron Windstrom, guardian of Icewind Dale. I have come to kill you." from The Crystal Shard

In the trilogy that chronologically comes before this, he's introduced to Mielikki by Montolio and becomes one of her followers, even though he doesn't necessarily "worship". The unicorn pendant he carries throughout many of the books is also, specifically, a symbol of Mielikki. Windstrom's is a downward pawprint with a star.

Now, technically, Gwaeron Windstrom is a minor deity that answers to Mielikki (theologically, he's actually in danger of being "consumed" by her due to their similarities and his lack of strength) , and he's pretty much only the deity of rangers (if not the only deity of rangers)...but throughout the series I've never seen any development of Drizzt pertaining to Windstrom, only Mielikki. There's no particular reason for a ranger to say "ranger of Gwaeron Windstrom" as opposed to "ranger of Mielikki" either.

All in all, it seems to be rather inconsistent with the character of Drizzt, so I have to wonder if his worship of Mielikki was something that Salvatore decided before or after the first series, and if he originally intended for Drizzt's spiritual beliefs to be merely "conventional ranger" and didn't put much thought into it at all beyond "what would a ranger say here?"

And...I may be thinking too much about this...I need classes to start up again XD

Anyone else have any thoughts? :P please don't leave me alone in my nerdery...
