Gunslinger, taken by itself, is awesome. DT as a whole is good.

I just remember the MOOD of Gunslinger. Very... damn, I can't even describe it. Good, though.
The other books are definitely a bit different- it's not always one guy trudging silently through a desert- but they're still quite good.
