You went to Readercon, I take it? Larry Send a noteboard - 12/07/2010 07:45:07 AM
You can't stop this.

I met, chatted with, and made friends with:

Ted Chiang (the dude is HUMBLE. would you believe that? I told him I just saw a dealer selling his autographed book for $125, he didn't beleve me. Also, he has a new novella coming out from Subterranean Press soon, and a new edition of Stories of Your Life from Small Beer Press if I'm not mistaken, so keep your eyes open)

You're not mistaken. Comes out in a couple of months, I believe.

Elizabeth Bear (she looks and speaks like Jodie Foster. I'm even more starstruck after meeting her, she is so cool)

Catherynne M. Valente (went to lunch with her & her husband, omg, they are so cool; and we totally clicked! which makes me cool by extension. right? We also bonded while standing together in the line for the Samuel Delany signing. We're so totally BFF. Also, she's at the KBG Bar in NYC on July 21.)

I've yet to email/talk with her, but she's scheduled to be the guest editor for BAF 6, so by sometime in 2012, I'll have had the chance to work with her. Looking forward to it.

Paul Park (so lovely and nice)

Michael Cisco (aka, the best writer you're not reading. Seriously.)

I've read all of his works, but I do agree with your assessment of him. Ever read anything by Thomas Ligotti, as Ligotti has had an influence on his career.

Cecilia Tan

Nick Antoscu (winner of the 2010 Shirley Jackson award for best novella)

Joan Slonczewski (all her books are again in print, and a new one coming out soon; also she's super smart and so interesting and cool)

N.K. Jemisin (I sensed serious BFF potential there, but was circumstances were against us)

If you want her email, I have it, since she and I did an interview for the Nebula site this past Spring.

Theodora Goss (who's, like, utterly gorgeous, and an amazing reader)

Another one I'd love to communicate with some time.

Caitlin R. Kiernan (one intense lady!)

You've read her short fiction and novels, right? That does seem to come across in several of the stories there.

It was all seven kinds of awesome. In conclusion: Elizabeth Bear is cool and awesome and Catherynne Valente is my new BFF.
