My daughter never could get into it though. What she did get into was "The Deeds of Paksenarion". In fact, I think that was the series that got all of my kids started in fantasy and thus reading for enjoyment. I don't know if we still have the original books of the series. We have all read the series over and over and no book can stand up to six people doing that as much as we have.
I have three sons and one daughter. They are 26,25,23 and 21 now. (My daughter is 23) They also all loved David Edding's Belgariad and Malloreon series. They all started reading fantasy when they were around your daughter's age give or take a year or so.
I can't garauntee she will like Anne of Green Gables but if she does you might want to have her try Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm as well. Both books have reputations as children's books but the humor is meant for adults. I loved them. I am curious what you would think of them, MC.

Yeah, dark is putting it mildly... it got bad enough that I'd hesitate recommending it.
