I don't mind that she was, in the end, not saved. I don't even mind that she was quickly transformed from a tough woman to a total wreck (who am I to say that such horrific experiences will not do that to anyone?). What I mind is the universal thought in the books that once this happens, there's no point in trying to help the woman.
After all, you know, there are women on this planet who have gone through similarly horrific experiences of mutilation or at least severe physical trauma combined with gang rape. And they don't just curl up and die. It's extremely offensive to suggest that they should, or that they're too broken to be worth saving.
It's one thing to have people make that comment to Cafal, but quite another for Erikson to confirm it and suggest he agrees.

Excellent review. Strengthens my resolve to reread at least part of TtH before starting. Thanks. *NM*

You don't need to reread TtH, actually. Reaper's Gale is much more relevant.
