I found Brave New world more believable for one main reason

Brave New World followed a path of human nature that I found plausible. People need to believe they are doing good even when they commit atrocities. They have to believe the victims deserve it at a minimum. We humans have a built need to justify our actions and a amazing ability to do so. In Brave New World the leaders felt that what they were doing brought the most happiness. In 1984 the goal was make people as down trodden and miserable as possible. Even the worst monsters in history didn't have making their people suffer their goal. Orwell went to far.
My favorite recent dystopia would be Julian Comstock. I found that to be a mostly believable possible future.

Brave New World may seem more realistic NOW, but when they were written, 1984 wins.
