I have seen steampunk mentioned several times on this forum as being very popular in fantasy right now. I do not doubt you all, but I have not seen it. I can think of maybe two authors I have read who write steampunky things: Mieville and (I guess) Lynch.

What am I missing? Do any of you have suggestions?

I think it is more Steampunk is taking over everything, not just fantasy. The new Doctor Who is heavily influenced by it, the Golden Compass showed a lot of steampunk material...steampunk jewelry, shirts, etc are being sold all over Columbus. I guess this really doesn't answer your question, sorry for not being more helpful :P
