from what he said at a book signing, it's not going to jump around near as much throughout the book. I think he mentioned there being 3 sections in the book and having a chapter in each of those dedicated to a character who is seemingly unrelated to the others, but who will show up in later books. So I'm assuming we got that one random character chapter, and since it was one of three chapters it might appear that it's going to be jumping around constantly, but it actually won't.
Brandon discussed SA in general and WoK in particular for about 20 min after a Q&A last summer, with a bunch of fans (most of us WOT fans too) who stayed longer. He showed us a lot of concept art for the various swords, costumes, locales/fauna/flora, the fighting styles on his laptop etc. He had an artist work on that to help him visualize his stuff.
He was saying it would get fairly complex, more like WOT, along the way, and that it would get political and all, and have a large cast and more worldbuilding than in Mistborn, and a lot more different magic systems (IIRC, he said ten) and that he was aiming for something midway between Jordan and Martin for the mood/tone.
This got the WOT fans in the lot excited, and Brandon immediately said we'd mostly have to wait for books 2,3 etc. for this because he also envisionned the 10 books as stand-alones and it's not before book 2 a lot of the more complex stuff would be introduced, and the series storyarcs would really begin. WoK would be a lot simpler than the others, and also a lot more action oriented. It wouldn't have that many storylines or characters either. More like Mistborn than WOT, but this would start to shift toward something more like Martin/Jordan after book 1.
I looked at the teaser stuff out of curiosity, but didn't pay all that much attention, and didn't got to more than the end of the prologue. I'm still more eager to read the full book from Brandon's comments than from the sneak preview itself. I don't like much starting something and stopping after a few chapters, that's mostly what happened.
