You can't get through a single shelf at Borders without seeing some book or another on Sumerian theory in Akkadian grammar with a tattooed girl standing in front of the moon on the cover. You know, the ones where invariably the protagonist struggles to lead a double life as a linguist and a child of Tiamat.
I'm pretty sure he was making fun of the ridiculous amount of titles the Dummies series offers on stupid topics that only a retard would need an instructional book for. But I'll let D'Mookster clarifies if he chooses.
But wine was the great assassin of both tradition and propriety...

Syriac is just a specific Aramaic dialect. You know one if you know the other, essentially.

Modern Arabic dialects should be considered separate languages.

"nasiy" is just one of the possible definitions that Manna gave, not the "proper reading".

There will probably be a more "general reader"-friendly book on it in the future.

I think there's even a "Children of Tiamat and the Parents Who Flay Them" section.
