I saw my beautiful Hotaru wade into the surf warm and happy. I also saw the search party pull her from the ocean in the early light of dawn. No warmth or color left in her. A block of ice with a passing resemblance to my wife. I refused to believe it at first. *I can untie the weights and swim to the surface. No. It is better this way. Is this what it was like for her?*
Look at how the bubbles hover before they float away from me. They look like cherry blossoms floating on a sea of black velvet. The way they sparkle, maybe they are more like fireflies. I want my firefly. Hotaru, I'm coming.
