Hi guys. I really need your help for two research papers I'm writing on wotmania. This is part one. If you could take five minutes and fill out this survey, it would be incredibly helpful.
Despite the fact that I have two exams tomorrow. I'll help.
-What is your race?
Caucasian.
-Do you think that there is an explicit hierarchy at wotmania? If so, how does it break down?
Well, it's not really clearly defined. Other than the admin-non-admin relationship. Otherwise, the position of being an elder/newbie/whatever is fairly arbitrary in my view.
-Do you believe that there is a hierarchy at wotmania, but it isn’t officially noted by anyone? If so, how does this hierarchy break down?
Well, there are a few cliques, or at least there is a "ring" of people who seem so garner much more respect with their posts. Most are "elders", some not. These people could post the most inane shit possible and others would still laugh or respond. Newbies usually wouldn't get favourable responses.
The heirarchy seems to be { admins/a few elders } -> { other elders/some newer folk } -> { other groups which I don't care to think about since I have so little time }
Things are very nebulous, so this isn't always the case.
-Do the terms Elder, Midbie, and Newbie actually mean anything for a person, or is it just a title that establishes how long someone has been at the site?
This questions isn't quite clear enough for me. Mean anything for a person? The application of those titles is generally time-oriented, though as I said before, things can be arbitrary in these matters.
-Do you think that the admins on the site are in higher standing than the other members?
They do get free premies. There is a slightly higher standing. That tends to happen when "employees" become close friends or are close friends. [On a tangent, there seems to be no protection from being banned for someone who owns a premie. I think that banning premie accounts should be harder for non-Mike admins. People pay money for the things. I was banned because the actual perpetrator's name was slightly similar mine. That's poor business. I suppose that's a bit of a rant.]
-In your opinion, do those who post on the Community MB think that they are “better” than those on the WoT MB?
There is a bit of elitism at many places online, and this site isn't immune. I think some people who post on the CMB do think so. Though I don't know why.
-In your opinion, do those who post on the WoT MB think that they are “better” than those on the Community MB?
I don't know.
Thank you.
You are welcome. Though I'm not really very active here anymore so my views may be outdated or wrong.
