As far as I remember - no books under hand - some Artos or Arthur certainy existed and was some sort of general (dux bellorum : commander in war he was called) in fifth Century Britain, at the time of Britons against Saxons fighting. But who exactly he was it isn't known.
Sure, it's a war leader named some variant of Arthur, but there were probably a *bunch* of those. "Military commander named Arthur" isn't the same thing as a Historical Arthur, in my opinion.
