The did-Jesus-thread got me thinking about King Arthur. I don't know that much about evidence for *him*, either--from the searching I've done it could go either way, really.


There is mention of an Arthur, well, Arth Fawr, in the Welsh Mabinogion, a collection of tales--of course, those are just that: stories.

There's been a sixth-century slate found in Cornwall, reading Artognou, father of a descendant of Coll, has had this built. An Arthur? The Arthur? Many historians feel it can't be so, since otherwise, any mentions of Arthurs are from the 12th century.

There's more, but it's all vague. So, what do you think? Was there a Historical King Arthur? Were there *several* Arthurs, or non-Arthurs, that some of the stories are based on? Or are they just myths, drawing on country stories and previous myth?
