but as far as how "misleading" any of the sources are, that depends as much on how particular historians situate them within historical context as it does on the content of the sources themselves.
As I said, not having a PhD may not necessarily disqualify you from being authoritative on this issue. Many professional historians don't have PhD's although they have certainly put the time in, and have an excellent grasp of the pertinent contextual issues of place and time.
