The Fourth Crusade and the fall of Constantinople in 1453 were vital to the spread of greek learning and literature. Taken together, these two events helped fuel the increased interest in Ancient Greek scholarship that led to the High Renaissance of the 15th and 16th centuries.
We will never know if it would have happened anyway. True. But why worry about what ifs?
