I studied Sumerian. It's probably the most "dead" language on the face of the earth, considering that it died out as a living language in remote antiquity but was studied as a "classical" language later on. There are a LOT of different versions of the Gilgamesh story out there...I don't even know where to begin.
Where did I learn how to misspell Sumerian? I must have made that mistake 5-6 times at least and I have the book beside me!
Yeah, I knew it was dead, dead as dead can be, but didn't know if there were any surviving related languages. As for the versions, I gathered that might be the case based on the introduction I read, where it mentioned Hittite, Akkadian, Babylonian, Elamite, and Assyrian versions, among others.
Thanks for replying.
By the way, almost have deep envy over you getting to go to the Caribbean and me having to endure a surprise snowstorm Tuesday Sounds like you had a lot of fun though and that's great to hear
