Where's a good place to start (I don't have TV, I'm a poor student )

start with what is not licensed in the US, that way you can download it from free fansub sites and watch it in a comp...which will in turn entice you to buy it as soon as it comes out...see...after a looksie, you'll run to buy yout TV set and a decent dvd (not vcr, since most anime comes out only in dvd now) than you can hunt your stores...mostly anyplace that rents video games also rents anime...possible exception being blockbuster which either has none or just have the oldies (well..if you've not seen much of it, it will be good for you)
