Read it up until the death of Frederick Barbarossa (considering the manner of his death is fairly famous, I don't think I'm giving anything away) and then skip to the last chapters from there and it's actually an interesting book. Read the stuff in between and you'll be thinking Eco has no idea how to write anything good anymore.
