Or does it more depend on the goal of the movement?

There have been many movements though the years, and it seems that the answer is different with the circumstances.


Oi! I know somes stuff about this. We recently did a discussion on revolutions in my AP class for history and the ones we talked about were: Russian, French, Mexican, American..etc.

In each one, violent means were used and they all succeed in accomplishing some of their goals.. but the french went through 6 subsequent governments before Napoleon took control. Some more peaceful revolutions, ie India, worked as well.

I would say it all depends on the goal of the movement and whether peaceful demonstrations will accomplish what you want.
