That's pretty much the basic gist of all major religions. The rest is window dressing called "cultural tradition". Once you realize that there are many paths to spiritual understanding, you'll realize that your own personal choice will have more to do with messages, symbols and means of understanding the search for the divine which resonate with you. For many, the choice is cultural and has to do with their ethnic background. For others, it is a matter of finding something that strikes a chord with them.

One of my friends said, "God doesn't care whether you pray in a church, a synagogue or a mosque, or none of the above." I tend to agree.
