Look how many Christian denominations there are. There have got to be several different "denominations" in Islam, as well.

That wouldn't make them not Muslem.

Lots of stuff. I believe the split occurred because there were differences over who should lead the Muslims after Mohammad.

Shias believe that the leader of Islam should be a descendent of Mohammad through his cousin Ali and Fatima.

Sunnis don't.

Oh, thanks. I heard the two terms all the time, and I have no idea what they mean. But there you go. 2 denominations as it were, with two ideas of how to read the Koran.
