This Project came at a bad time for me. I just ran out of time in a serious way, and I don’t think I’ll have any for the next little while. Between that and being burned out from the exams that ended yesterday, I’ve got nothing. I’d love to talk about everyone I can, but it just ain’t happening. So here’s the deal. This will be OA’s Limited Version of The Project. I’m only going to talk about people who I’ve gotten to know in a significant way since the last time. If you think your name should be here, you’re probably right. I think the world of some people I’m not going to mention, so don’t feel bad. Cool? Cool.

You were like my surprise toy at the bottom of a box of cereal. I had no idea you were coming, but once you were there, I could well have bought the cereal just for you. Or... uh... okay, my analogies suck. Let’s pretend that one didn’t happen.
You’re a decent person, Jena. You’re funny, totally nifty, and it’s a good chat whenever you’re around. I’m glad I met you, and I hope you don’t mind too much if I consider you a friend.

I don’t think there’s anybody I’ve called a bastard more times and meant it.
I had no idea what to expect back when I met you. None. In fact, if you recall my story of way back when, that was kind of the overarching theme. I suppose if I had any kind of hint, it was to expect (in your own words) a loudmouth malcontent. Though maybe one with a bit of style. Of course, times marches on and I did finally meet you. We’ve never really discussed what followed but I’m going to call it the way I see it, and I don’t think I’m too far off. I think we clicked. Banter, jokes, stories, that’s business as usual, but I think we were on the same page enough to really connect in our conversation. I think we still do.
You’re a good writer, man. Make that a great writer. You already know that, but this is a time for saying things you already know. You’ve written things that have given me goose bumps, and things that have made me smile. There was even that one that brought tears to my eyes. It’s not just in Word documents that it shows itself, though. You bring it to regular conversation and it gives things an edge. I like it. Makes you a pleasure to talk to.
Especially when you combine it with humour. You’re one of those people who are just funny. You take something another person would say straight out, and make me laugh with it. Not just with a nifty turn of phrase, either. You get right into the content and find a hilarious reply. How do you do that?
And then, there’s the generosity. I mean, you sent me Christmas presents. You’ve spent enough money on all of us that we outlawed it. You’re a person who likes to make other people smile, and occasionally laugh, and occasionally almost spit out pizza, and that makes you pretty damn cool. Except for the pizza spitting out part. You bastard.
I don’t exactly have too many good friends at the end of the day, but you’re one of them. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I– Hired gun’d!
Dodge.
I woke up today and you were there on AIM while I was still coming out of my groggy I-Am-Not-A-Morning-Person-FEAR-ME phase. We got talking about The Project and how you had already started, and I guess you kind of inspired me. Yours is the first one of these that I’m going to write. Hope you don’t mind. If I’m still working out the kinks you have only yourself to blame.
Of course, this is not the only reason I’m starting with you. There’s a feeling that I’ve always gotten from you, right from the beginning. Dodge, you represent friendship to me. When we talk it’s carefree. Your manner has always been light, and appealing, and accepting. It’s like no matter where the conversation or activity goes, it’s all about fun every step of the way. You mould yourself to the moment and just go with it. I have never had to put on an act for you, not once. If I have an opinion I can just say it, and you’ll either think it’s cool or let it slide. This nature to walk through whatever comes, side by side with a nudge and a wink says to me exactly what a good part of friendship is about. If there is anybody with whom I am going to start this Project, it’s you.
One of the key elements of your appealing nature is your humour. You are one of the funniest people I know. It makes its way into just about everything that you type. You make me laugh, man.
Another thing that I like about you is how respectful you are. You’ve adopted it as a policy, and it’s one I’ve always tried to follow myself. When it comes to official business I’ve never seen you approach a situation with anything but smiles and civility. You bring that to your personal dealings, too. You’ve got this ability to joke around without stepping on anybody’s toes, and it rocks.
Something that I’ve always wanted to smack you for is when you don’t consider yourself on the same level as other posters. Dodge. Dude. You’re among the best. I’m not just saying this because you buddy around with the best, you’re really one of them. In fact, I would say that when I consider my own reckoning of the best posters at wotmania, you are in the top 3. You can sell yourself short all you like, but I’ll correct you every time. I guess you don’t make many main posts anymore, but who’s not guilty of that lately? It’s always quality when you do.
If our time together isn’t spent on the message board, then where is it? It’s in the great wotmaniac hereafter: Instant messaging. I must say that even after all this time (you being one of the first wotmaniacs I spoke with regularly) I get a little excited when I see you logged in. I think our drastically different time zones may help with that a bit. You often have to leave around my dinner time, when a lot of my mainstream chatting doesn’t happen until the wee hours. It’s makes it feel less a given that you’ll be there. It’s more like a privilege. I think to myself Dude! Dodge is here! even though I just talked to you the day before. Everything is a little more care free, just because you’re around. You see, *Ahem*. I love you, Dodge. There’s just no way around it. You’re a bright spot in my days and I enjoy talking with you very much. I’ve never so much as shaken your hand, but I consider you my friend.
And I mean, dude. You can pick up a guitar and wail. How could you not rule?
draggie
You’re the perfect combination of down to earth and crazy. And that’s crazy in a fun way. You’re funny, and cool, and I like it very much when you’re around.
In short: Lurve.
