most opinion pieces make only vague references to where they get their figures from. Must be from polling, exit polling etc. People group others together lots of the time though in his defence, even some conservatives do it in their opinion pieces *gasps* It's really more of a tendency. Christian conservatives on the whole are more likely to be blah blah blah. Republican christian conservatives are more likely to have hard ons about pornography, iraq blah blah blah.
and yes htey could indeed be out of his arse, but that's opinion pieces for you.
I'm sure some conservative do too, I hope I would treat their articles with as much scorn. You should see the number of awful political books published out here that are appallingly bad by both the extreme liberals and extreme conservatives
As for the tendency part he quoted specific figures but never said where he got them from apart from "American pollsters". There is a big difference between tendency and specific figures. If he had said Christian conservatives on the whole etc, I would not have been so derisive of this piece.
