The BBC has been invaded by a pseudo-Irish twang that just isn't proper Queen's English. It isn't Irish, though, either...I don't even know how to describe it. It has a very weird sound, though.
Well... I probably wouldn't know the difference My English prof likes to tell the story about how when his father first arrived in England in WWII, he was greeted by a mechanic or some such at the airfield, to whom he replied, "Thank you, my lord!"
