I don't care if cats are smarter, they're not as socialized as dogs and hence more walking furniture than pets.
Dogs pick up on social cues that humans send better than any other animal on the planet, according to a recent study whose findings were published in The Economist (well, that's where I read it...I know it was published in scientific journals as well). They therefore are capable of more meaningful interaction with humans (on average) than cats, pigs, dolphins or chimpanzees.
How do you define meaningful interaction? You can't pick them up because you'll break them (you can feel their rib cages- ewwww!) and they stink and they're heavy. They require TONS of attention (where I can just let my cats out whenever they feel like it and let them in whenever they feel like it) and you have to clean up their poop (cats bury theirs.)
It's obvious here. No, it doesn't matter who's smarter. (Dogs are stupid enough to even pay attention to us, but some people need paid attention to more than others.)
Cats are just cute little furballs! not walking furniture!!!!!!

Me: Why is Danny Gokey making that heart signal? Does he love me like Jesus loves me?
Mr. rebel: Yeah, fictionally.
