I hate the "talk" but communication is quite improtant. You seem to be at different levels in your relationship (4 months is a relationship) and that puts preasure on both parties. I say, discuss where you stand, and take it from there. Hopefully everything works out for you and your "friend."

Oh and take it from a "nice guy," if you still want to be friends with him, don't call him a nice guy and ask if you can still be friends.
